Our cold open scene presents Devil Slayer and his powers. The next scene presents him in his civilian guise, with his assistant Alonso Quijano, attending to his patient Vera Marie at the sanitarium he operates.

Isaac's celebrating retirement in Tijuana, where he's begun to make friends and improve his Spanish. Unfortunately one of them has made a bargain to kill his sister's abusive boyfriend. Isaac decides to intervene as the Gargoyle, which will require a slow, painful transformation.

Meanwhile, it looks like the Gemini sister being helped by Payne and his assistants is kidnapped during a raid on the sanitarium. Is she kidnapped from the sanitarium by an avatar of the Six Fingered Hand?

Between these scenes, we have Kyle and Patsy at a rooftop party in Mexico City, reminiscing about the old days with Valkyrie, Doc and Hulk, and Kyle reflects upon his own recent unsuccessful effort to draw together the original team. They are attacked by a demon. After this, they sense the extra sensory S.O.S. from Devil Slayer.

Is Devil Slayer really incarcerated? Was Al Quijano the clinic assistant replaced by a demon? How did they get the drop on him? Were they there to kidnap Gemini? Is he going along with it long enough to draw help, since he has spied the intervention of the Defenders in the veils of the future?

Having transformed into his orange, scaly alter ego, Isaac/ Gargoyle spies on the cultists gathered, including the assassin. One demon laughs at being asked to have sex with the Sun God to destroy the stock market in Japan? The belief fostered among certain fundamentalists makes it appealing to consider, it decides.

So Vera Marie is rescued by Gargoyle? Her kidnappers will run afoul of Gargoyle, who is in the process of trying to stop an assassin from fulfilling a contract when he follows the assassin back to an attempted sacrifice. (Is she actually Vera Gemini? Is she actually her twin sister?)

Were they there to kidnap Gemini? Is he going along with it long enough to draw help, since he has spied the intervention of the Defenders in the veils of the future? Does he simply disguise as one of the inmates until he can assemble greater forces?

If Gemini comes back to the Sanitarium with Gargoyle’s help, Gargoyle sticks around to guard against their return. Does she attempt to hypnotise him into seeing Kyle and Patsy as demons? Patients? Possessed patients?

Who presents Payne as a patient to Kyle and Patsy? If it’s really Devil Slayer, is he insane?

A new Six Fingered Hand avatar will arrive for combat, so we have Vera and that thing, the Hawk Knight?, to battle the Defenders, along with various paranoia-fueled demons given personas culled from Eric’s other patients.
